Clare Mulley – Agent Zo
Agent Zo, long-listed for The Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction, tells the incredible story of the only woman to parachute from Britain to Nazi-occupied Poland, where she established a crucial intelligence network and couriered microfilm across wartime borders, playing a key role in the Warsaw Uprising and the liberation of her country. Imprisoned and silenced by the post-war Communist regime, Elżbieta Zawacka is brought back to life by historian Clare Mulley.
“Deeply researched and written with verve... thoughtful as well as action packed”
Jonn Elledge – A History of the World in 47 Borders
A fascinating and surprising history of the world told through the lines people have drawn on maps, by the 'charming and outstandingly nerdish' author of The Compendium of (Not Quite) Everything. Jonn Elledge is a New Statesman columnist and a contributor to multiple newspapers.
“A novel and fascinating perspective on world history”
Luke Pepera – Motherland: A Journey Through 500,000 Years of African Culture and Identity
Historian and author Luke Pepera takes the audience through 500,000 years of African history and culture by telling stories from his new book, Motherland. He’ll cover subjects including medieval African empires, oral literature, matriarchal societies and ancient trade between Africa and China.
“
Simultaneously capacious and personal, this achieves what might have been thought impossible: to give the reader 500,000 years of history, spanning an entire continent, without ever becoming reductive. A masterful achievement
”
Michael Calvey – Odyssey Moscow
Odyssey Moscow begins in 2019 with a shocking dawn raid on Michael Calvey’s apartment by armed FSB agents.
Twenty-eight years earlier, Calvey – a newly-graduated. aspiring Wall Street hotshot – made a short trip from his native America to the recently- collapsed USSR to look at potential investments. Sensing huge opportunity, he soon based himself in Moscow, living through the “Wild East” years and going on to build several billion-dollar funds – earning enormous returns for blue-chip Western investors as Russia opened to international business.
“From pioneering investor to financial titan to jail-time in Moscow’s most notorious prison – Mike Calvey has ventured deep inside the Russian enigma. He knows more about post-Communist Russia, good and bad, than any other Westerner on earth. … One of the world’s most astute and successful asset managers, he’s a superb writer too, with an astonishing tale to tell.’ Liam Halligan”

Join the team to find out more about the history Charterhouse is steeped in.
